I wrote Festive Changes on "Westminster Abbey" for J. Samuel Hammond, University Carillonneur at Duke University, where I did my undergraduate degree. The mathematical permutations of the bell patterns around the hymn tune were my attempt to duplicate the sound of traditional English change-ringing around Purcell's fine melody, known to many through the hymn "Christ is Made the Sure Foundation."
