Steven Mauk of Ithaca College premiered the two-piano version of Barren Rhapsodies at the North American Saxophone Alliance conference in Tucson. It’s a passionate work about the perils and heartache of unrequited—the ultimately fruitless excesses of joy and woe to which the would-be lover can drive himself.
